Wolf Parade: Expo 86 (Sub Pop)
Â
Wolf Parade isn’t a band that lives up to its canine name. Between Handsome Furs, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, and Johnny and the Moon, the Montreal act has more side projects than studio albums. Which is why Expo 86 (named after the world fair event in Vancouver that all members of Wolf Parade went to) should come as a relief to fans.
It’s as though chief songwriters and vocalists Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner have accepted (note: NOT embraced) each other’s individual tastes (art rock and post-punk), and have collectively decided with the other members to rock out in an un-ironic way. The result: a veteran indie band that’s ready to rock stadiums with a new set of tunes that’ll impress new fans, but will probably bore old ones. If you don’t get that, start howling at the moon.
