adidas Originals Street Party @ BB Park
The usually not-so-happening BB Park was buzzing on the last day of April when adidas Originals brought the house down with its KL edition of its international street parties series.
One of hip hop’s best, Altimet, took the mic as host for the event while guests hung out and caught up at the Norse Bar venue. Fixie riders, street dancers and Star Wars troopers were the opening acts as they performed tricks and got the crowd pumped up for the rest of the night.
It was nice to see indie rock band Bittersweet rocking the stage after a long time – we couldn’t stop moving our bodies to their set. This was followed by Altimet, who performed his hit ‘Syukur’, before Melissa Indot kicked it with the man on her chart topping dance-pop hit single ‘Starlight’. Jap-droppingly brilliant beatboxer Shawn Lee also dropped his brand of mad skills, then it was the colourful and eclectic Ze! who took centrestage and belted out some hot joints. Watch out for her. She is rising – and fast!
The adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2010 fashion show was the centrepiece for the event of course. With masked models made to resemble mannequins and with tricky platforms to overcome, adidas Originals successfully showcased the collection’s vibrant lines and inherent creativity. Styled by “original” Ethan Chu of Femmething/Streething, we expected nothing less.
Reunited again, the G+B Show featuring DJ Goldfish and Blink took over the night when they popped out of a giant blue adidas shoebox-turned DJ console. In true electro style, the music was pumping and everyone was soon on their feet.
Despite the heat, everyone had a good time and the impromptu B-boying from the toddlers on the elevated stage turned out to be a big draw. We didn’t leave early, but instead stayed and drank till the wee hours with the crew, team and friends that made the event possible. Hic!
