A couple’s holiday in Langkawi took a nightmarish turn when they returned to their hotel room near midnight and found a long-haired stranger sleeping in their bed.
In a viral TikTok clip posted on 27 Sept, the wife can be seen pushing open the unlocked hotel room door, only to discover a woman lying under the covers with her face obscured by dark hair. For a moment, she thought she had seen a ghost.
“It was almost midnight, and I was so scared that I got goosebumps all over my body. I thought I saw a ghost,” she told 8world News.
The couple said they had locked the door earlier that day before leaving a “Please clean the room” sign and a spare key card inside to keep the air conditioning on. When they returned around 11.30 p.m., however, the door was unlocked and a stranger was inside.
Security called, but no one touched her
According to the couple, the hotel front desk had only one staff member on duty at the time. Two security guards were later dispatched with a wheelchair to remove the woman, but they explained that hotel policy prohibited them from physically touching guests. Instead, they tried calling out to the woman from outside the room, but she did not respond.
The woman, it turned out, was heavily intoxicated.
Not a ghost, but a drunk neighbour
By the following morning, her identity was revealed. She was a guest from the neighbouring room who, after a night of drinking with her boyfriend, had wandered out in a daze and mistakenly entered the couple’s unlocked room before falling asleep.
The hotel has since admitted that housekeeping staff were negligent and had failed to lock the room properly after cleaning.
No theft, but a refund demanded
Fortunately, no valuables were reported missing. The couple, however, are now negotiating a refund with the hotel and have cautioned other travellers to keep their belongings with them rather than leave them in their rooms.
The incident, which was widely shared on social media, has drawn comparisons to a real-life horror story—with many netizens saying the long-haired figure looked like something straight out of The Ring.
The TikTok clip has since been deleted.
