‘Furever Friends’ Seeks to Make Malaysia Kinder to Animals, One Paw at a Time

Let’s face it. Malaysia needs to do better when it comes to protecting our furry (and not-so-furry) friends. That’s why JUICE is collaborating with SAYS on Furever Friends, a heartfelt campaign to spark real change for animal welfare across the country. Whether it’s our beloved pets or stray animals surviving on the streets, it’s time we showed them more compassion.

Why now? Because the stats are heartbreaking. Between 2021 and 2024, over 7,600 cases of animal abuse were reported in Malaysia — and that’s just the ones we know about. Selangor topped the list, with dogs being the most commonly abused animals, followed by cats, horses, rabbits, and even cows. Yes, cows.

It gets worse. Recent viral stories like the horrifying burning of a dog, the tragic death of stray icon ‘Kopi’, and cats being stuffed into sacks in Cheras have stirred outrage, but also revealed just how much more needs to be done.

We Have to Protect Our Furever Friends…

Running from 13 May to 31 July, the Furever Friends campaign is powered by SAYS, JUICE, Fly FM, and Lumi News, and backed by animal welfare champions like A Dog’s Life, Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Selangor (SPCA Selangor), and Trap – Neuter – Release – Manage Malaysia (TNRM Malaysia).

“The heartbreaking cases we’ve seen remind us why movements like Furever Friends are urgently needed. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to a future where every animal feels safe, loved, and valued,” said Gowri Chitra Martin, Head of Content at SAYS.
