Joyland Bali 2024 Headliners Are Set To Rock This Weekend

The third edition of Joyland Festival Bali is set to take place this week at Peninsula Island The Nusa Dua, Bali from 1 to 3 March.

If you haven’t decided on going, here’s a closer look at the headliners so you don’t need to overthink…

 

James Blake

James Blake has had a strong year with his latest album Playing Robots into Heaven nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Once described by music critics as “post-dubstep”, Blake’s signature music style incorporating R&B and soul into heavy bass-driven dance has stood the test of time with everyone across the Atlantic, from Kanye to Beyonce, seeking his songwriting touch.

 

Kings of Convenience

As their band name suggests, Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe of Norway are just the perfect vibe for a breezy day of going with the flow.

Best known for their 2004 hit ‘I’d Rather Dance With You’, the indie folk duo took a 12-year break from releasing new material until 2021’s Peace or Love. With their creative mojo recaptured, now is the best time to catch them live.

 

Todd Terje

The “King of the summer jams” is set to take the stage at Joyland Bali. Making his name by releasing a string of catchy remixes in the mid-2000s, he quickly caught the attention of not just dance music lovers, but fans of the artists he remixed.

In 2017, Terje was nominated for Record of the Year for the Four Tet Remix of his song ‘Jungelknugen’ at the Electronic Music Awards. Along the way he also co-wrote Robbie Williams’ chart-topping single ‘Candy’ and produced a couple of songs for Franz Ferdinand’s Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action in addition to releasing his long-awaited debut, It’s Album Time.

 

Gilles Peterson

Starting on London pirate radio stations, Gilles Peterson has spent the better part of the last three decades introducing music listeners to the fringes of jazz, hip hop and electronic.

Several record labels and festival headlines later, the Frenchman is more active than ever at age 59, picking up the A&R Award from the Music Producers Guild in 2019.

 

Shintaro Sakamoto

Shintaro Sakamoto is living proof that you can’t keep a good musician down.

After releasing 10 albums over the course of 21 years, his psych rock band Yura Yura Teikoku disbanded in 2010. However, Sakamoto continued to forge ahead as a solo artist, featuring a more candid and goofier side to his music.

The Japanese powerhouse’s groovy blend of jazz, funk, and pop can be best heard on 2013’s ‘Don’t Know What’s Normal’.

 

The Walters

With their viral hit ‘I Love You So’ trending on TikTok, The Walters are back from a four-year hiatus.

Blending the golden sounds of the ’70s with influences from classic acts like The Beach Boys, Elliot Smith, and Neil Young, filtered through surf pop aesthetics, don’t miss your chance to catch the dreamiest of dream pop out there.

 

Whitney

With effortless falsetto hooks and breathy harmonies from yesteryear, Whitney have cemented themselves as a band to catch live. Don’t believe us? Just google their cover of ‘Country Roads’.

Formed shortly after the breakup of members Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich’s band Smith Westerns in late 2014, Whitney is currently on tour promoting their fourth album, Spark.

 

Mong Tong

Hailing from Taiwan, Mong Tong are brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi, who share a love for psychedelic and traditional music.

Drawing equal influence from the likes of The Rolling Stones and Southeast Asian mythology and folklore, Mong Tong is a worthy act to catch live with their special outfits and surreal visuals.
