The Boogeyman was first published in 1978 as part of The Night Shift collection of short stories that King wrote for magazines over the years.
The original short was extremely eerie and focused on a man’s visit to a therapist during which he related how the title character – a sadistic presence – killed all of his children. The children cried “Boogeyman!” before being left alone in their bedrooms and killed, with their closet door left ajar.
The film adaptation’s synopsis differs a little bit from the original: A teenage girl and her younger sister, who are still in shock over the tragic death of their mother, struggle to get their grieving father to pay attention to the presence in their home before it is too late.
Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, Sophie Thatcher, David Dastmalchian, Marin Ireland, and Madison Hu are the cast for The Boogeyman.
The film has been scheduled for theatrical release on June 2, 2023.
