PM Ismail Sabri Dons RM6900 Burberry Shirt At Local Event, Leaving Netizens Baffled
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob attended the Jom Heboh Carnival at Anjung Floria, Precinct 4 on Saturday (June 25), where he was photographed continuously and seen mingling with several members of the public from as early as 8 in the morning.
The carnival organised by Media Prima Berhad (MPB) was enlivened with various tents representing TV3, TV9, DidikTV, Hot FM, Molek FM, Buletin FM, Oh Bulan and many more.
While the PM described the event as an effective medium for gathering people of various races in the country, in line with the concept of the ‘Malaysian Family’ that he introduced, netizens were far more intrigued by his choice of attire.
Clad in a button-down collar shirt with tones of pink, red and white, netizens were quick to find that the item hailed straight from the shelves of Burberry, a British luxury fashion line, priced at a whopping RM6900.
Amidst rising prices, food shortages and worldwide inflation, netizens proceeded to leave comments showing their disbelief regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil noted that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s penchant for donning lavish pieces only emphasised a certain disconnect from common people.
Fahmi also noted that the act was especially uncalled for at a time when citizens nationwide were facing financial struggles, strained by global shifts and the Covid-19 pandemic which left many Malaysians unemployed and barely able to make ends meet.
Following that, Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz noted that it was not uncommon for the Prime Minister to receive fancy gifts; proving further that local higher-uppers were immune to the country’s toil.
If this issue sounds strangely familiar to you, then you might recall a similar instance that took place just a month ago.
Pictured above is the Prime Minister dressed in another Burberry shirt during his official work trip to Japan, which drew media attention for all the same reasons.
The shirt was priced at RM5514 excluding tax.
At the time, the politician was not only slammed for inconsiderate behaviour, but for his “poor fashion sense” as well.
This user went so far as to say the shirt’s design resembled goat testicles, and now I can’t unsee it.
Well, one thing’s for sure.
Our PM has definitely made a name for himself in the local fashion world…
