Regina Spektor: Far (Warner)
There’s no denying that Regina Spektor’s a great songwriter who has a way with words especially when it comes to confessionals.
But to people out there who are still new to her – Beware! You will either love this piano anti folker madly and she will become your new reason to get up in the morning OR you will find her more annoying than a monkey with a new strand of flu.
The best way to describe Far is a combination of all the things that made her pervious albums work – cutesiness plus quirkiness and then some. Who else would pause in the middle of one of her catchy songs (‘Folding Chair’) about long-term commitment to break into a dolphin-vocal solo?
