Lorry That Hauled Massive Timber Not From Pahang Forest, Says State Forestry Department
A photo of a lorry carrying an unusually massive log cargo that stopped at the Temerloh RNR (west coast bound), East Coast Highway 1 (LPT1) that went viral on social media on Sunday was assumed coming from Pahang.
The Pahang Forestry Department (JPNP) explained that the lorry with the timber load was believed to be on its way from Terengganu to a timber factory in Selangor, reported Sinar Harian.
“The trailer was stopped for inspection at RNR Gombak and checks by the JPNP found that the heavy vehicle with the load [photo] was viralised by a Facebook account of an environmental activist.
“However, the results of the check found that the information on the lorries and log it carried was the same as the details stated in pass issued by the Terengganu Forestry Department,” JPNP said in a statement on Monday.
In the statement, JPNP said it hoped that complaints on the matter can be channeled directly through relevant government departments or agencies, including JPNP so that faster action can be taken to avoid misunderstanding among the public.
“The department is always vigilant and responsible for all complaints reported to ensure that firm and immediate action can be taken to protect and preserve the state’s forest treasures,” the statement said.
On Sunday, a Facebook user uploaded a photo of a lorry carrying huge pieces of logs that was allegedly taken at the Temerloh RNR at 5:50pm on the same day. The user and others questioned how the logs managed to pass inspection or tax payment as he claimed that the inspection station was closed on Sundays.
Bernama reported that Sunday is a working day in Terengganu and LPT1 is the normal route for those in the state who are heading towards the West Coast.
