#CucukMYAZ: Vaccination Day Checklist & Tips to Get You Ready For The Jab!
As the opt-in programme for the AstraZeneca vaccine kicks off this week, those who had registered for the jab turned up in droves at the four vaccination centres to receive their jabs against Covid-19.
In fact, you can take a look at the countless Malaysians sharing their experience on Twitter with the hashtag #CucukMYAZ – yes, it’s a cheeky wordplay and no, we’re not complaining.
ICYMI, the opt-in was met with overwhelming traffic minutes after registration opened at 12 noon, with at least 210,000 bookings for the first dosage snapped up by 2:30 pm, according to Malaysia’s Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Open only to residents in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, those who have successfully registered will be getting their AstraZeneca shots at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam (IDCC), Dewan 1 Bangunan Peperiksaan Universiti Malaya (UM), or Dewan Gemilang Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
If you’re among the ones who registered for the vaccine, congrats! Now, you might feel anxious or nervous about getting your vaccination but that’s totally normal. To dampen any anxiety you might be feeling about your vaccination appointment, we’re here to help you out with some tips to keep in mind!
Let’s start with your vaccination day checklist…
Vaccination day checklist
- Turn up early for the appointment, about half an hour before the appointment time.
- Wear loose clothing that allows doctors to easily access your shoulder.
- Remember to bring your mobile phone with your MySejahtera ID and your NRIC.
- Attend the briefing and verification of your identity. You will need to scan several QR codes with your mySejahtera app. There will be a short counselling session by the doctor who will review your medical history such as past medical issues, allergies, etc.
- If this is cleared, sign the consent form saying that you are agreeable to the vaccine. This is only for the first dose. You can then proceed to vaccination. It is better to be injected on your non-dominant hand, as most people experience soreness and pain at the injection area.
- You will need to stay for observation for 30 minutes. You will be monitored for any severe reactions.
- You will receive a notification for your second dose (between two to three weeks after). The second dose will be much faster as there will be no counselling or briefing session.
- After the second dose, you will be given a card to verify that you have received both doses. This card will also be available on your mySejahtera app.
While scrolling through the #CucukMYAZ, here are some extra tips from fellow Malaysians themselves:
- Bring a jacket as the halls can get very cold.
- Bring your own pen to make filling any forms much easier.
- Bring a bottle of water.
- Make sure your mobile phone is sufficiently charged as you will be using it a lot or have a power bank in handy.
- Eat before your appointment.
Besides that, you also have to remember that all vaccines have possible side effects with mild to moderate severity.
Typical vaccine side effects include local pain, swelling, redness and sometimes bruising at the injection site, as well as fever and tiredness. Lucky for you as it usually lasts up to only 48 hours.
Now that you’re ready and set, make sure to take a selfie before you leave your appointment! Good luck.
