SUKE: 3 Workers Fall to Their Death & One Road User Injured After Crane Collapses on Highway

Earlier today (22 March), it was reported that two foreign workers have died and one was heavily injured after a launcher crane at a highway construction site in Kuala Lumpur toppled over, crushing a car. According to FMT’s latest update, the injured construction worker has also passed away.

Now, three foreign workers have died and one road user is injured at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE). The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

“The SUKE Emergency Response Team and the Fire and Rescue Department has closed traffic there and rescue efforts are still ongoing,” said a SUKE representative in a statement today (22 March).

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said that the driver of the car, who is a Malaysian, was seriously injured as steel from the crane crushed the vehicle.

The three workers from China, on the other hand, were confirmed dead at the scene with two of them falling on to the road from a height of about 36.5m, while the third worker, who was stuck on the scaffolding, was also pronounced dead by the rescue personnel.

The department said it received a distress call from residents near Puncak Banyan, Persiaran Alam Damai, at 8.45am after they claimed to have heard an extremely loud crash, and sent 26 personnel to the scene. The road has currently been blocked off as authorities are still there.

The accident was first reported in a post around 9am by the Facebook group ‘No Suke Highway’.
