Masjid Jamek Looked Like It Was Floating In Yesterday’s Massive Flash Flood

After heavy rain poured over the nation, everyone in the Kuala Lumpur area that tried to escape rush hour ended up facing KL’s massive flood.

The rain started around 2pm and lasted more than 2 hours, causing flash floods in several parts of central KL with water raised to 3 metres high. Some people had to be moved after the homes were underwater.

Some netizens shared pictures of Kuala Lumpur underwater on social media. One Twitter user @morpheuse shared a photo of Masjid Jamek, jokingly saying it’s now an island.

A video of a Perodua Kelisa bracing through the flooded streets of Dang Wangi also went viral, getting praised by netizens for powering through water before reaching high ground.

Director of Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Kuala Lumpur, Nordin Pauzi said officers have been dispatched to affected areas to observe and help victims caught in the disaster, Berita Harian reported.

“Firefighters dispatched have monitored the flood situation and ensured safety there. All flash floods in affected areas have gradually recovered,” he said.
