Newly-Painted Mural of Agong & Political Leaders Found Vandalised in Shah Alam

Netizens went crazy when Twitter user @MrJamesLabu uploaded a viral video of a defaced mural in an alley in Shah Alam that was found to be vandalised this morning, 20 July.

In the video posted by the Twitter user, the faces of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham, were sprayed with red paint and accompanied with derogatory remarks.

In following tweets, the Twitter user also showed pictures of the police and the mural’s artist at the scene of the crime, discussing the situation. @MrJamesLabu also mentioned that closed-circuit television (CCTV) were installed at the corners of the building.

As of now, all the figures in the mural have been painted over with white paint by the Shah Alam City Council and the matter is currently under investigation.

Netizens were enraged at how the culprit(s) did not respect the artist’s work which no doubt too long hours to complete.

Obsession and bias toward politics won’t save a country. It’s doesn’t care that you’re from the opposing team, pro govy or whatsoever. This kind of behaviour is childish and unacceptable plus please have some respect to the artist that who made this beautiful mural!.

If you hate someone, make it personal. Do not drag everyone into your hates. You drag the artist. This is sad and awful. To the artist, your mural is great. I appreciate your art. But this vandalism doesn’t have love towards it. Whoever did this, you are not human.

In case you missed it, the mural at Taman Cahaya Alam, Seksyen U12, Shah Alam was unveiled earlier this month by its creator, artist Miey Ali, who made the piece with the help of two friends. It took 2 weeks for the three of them to complete the five portraits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, PM Muhyiddin, Health DG Datuk Dr Noor Hisham, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.
