Here’s What To Expect in Marvel’s Highly Anticipated Phase 4!
Imagine San Diego Comic Con as a nerd church, gathering thousands of cosplayers, industry people and super fans. The news that comes out from Hall H is like the holy choir, giving chills to everyone in the room. That’s what Marvel Studios did at their Hall H panel when announcing Phase 4.
Avengers: Endgame, including Spider-Man: Far From Home were the last movies that closed the Phase 3. No more Avengers this time, Marvel is going beyond their formula. With 22 movies under their belt, Marvel has managed to explore the MCU deeper with a marvellous superhero roster and stretched the mythos of the MCU.
We’re too poor to go to SDCC, but we’re total nerds and we’ve compiled this list for all you true believers, who apparently can’t get enough of spandex-wearing supes.
The Eternals
Created by The Celestials, The Eternals are cosmic gods and goddesses, protector of humankind and destroyer of the Deviants. The plot of the movie is still unknown, but the casting is great and Marvel Studios’ CEO Kevin Feige promised the movie will translate Kirby’s colourful pages that reflect our world.
THE ETERNALS stars:
- Angelina Jolie as Thena,
- Richard Madden as Ikaris,
- Salma Hayek as Ajak,
- Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo,
- Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos,
- Lauren Ridloff as Makkari,
- Lia McHugh as Sprite and,
- Don Lee as big baddie Gilgamesh.
It is directed by Chloe Zao.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings
The Master of Kung-Fu and dubbed as the most skilled at hand-to-hand combat – Shang-Chi is Marvel’s Bruce Lee, if you will. And if the title isn’t clear enough, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will introduce the real Mandarin.
During Marvel’s Hall H panel, Kevin Feige said this movie will explore the mythos of the Ten Rings organisation since we first saw them in 2008’s Iron Man as well as in Iron Man 3 with the fake Mandarin appearance which let everybody down. According to Feige, the Mandarin is pissed and he’s coming out to do the work himself.
Marvel Studios’ SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung. It is directed by Destin Cretton and hits theaters in February 12, 2021.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange 2! This sequel will be the MCU’s first ever horror movie. The film will tie in with Disney+’s show WandaVision, which is why Dr Strange will be joined by the Scarlet Witch for his weird and fantastical adventures in the multiverse.
DR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. Scott Derickson returns as director. It hits theaters 7 May 2021.
Thor: Love and Thunder
One of the news that broke Marvel’s Hall H panel is when Taika Waititi passed the Mjolnir to Natalie Portman, who will be the new Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder! Director Taika Waititi said this movie will take inspiration from Jason Aaron’s Thor: The Goddess of Thunder run where Jane Foster wields the mighty hammer and becomes Thor.
THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman. Taika Waititi returns as director. In theatres 5 November 2021.
Black Widow
After 100 years, we’re finally getting a solo Black Widow movie, which is the first to come out from Phase 4. Marvel released concept art from the film showing Natasha throwing punches with Taskmaster, who will be the baddie in the movie. We have a theory that Hawkeye is going to be in it as well since Feige said they are going to explore the Budapest story. What’s for sure is that we are stoked for another action thriller movie from the MCU!
BLACK WIDOW stars Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz. Directed by Cate Shortland. In theatres 1 May 2020.
Blade
Blade is back baby! Starring super actor Mahershala Ali as the new Daywalker of the MCU, Blade is one of our most anticipated releases. With the introduction of Blade in the MCU and tie ins with the Disney+ series, we wonder if Blade is going to be PG13 or Rated-R, but we definitely hope for the latter. It’s possible that Marvel could do a Marvel Knights Universe that could tie in to the expanded universe. Imagine that… Blade, Moon Knight and The Punisher meeting the colourful heroes. That’d be pretty sweet.
No details for the project yet but we’re going to bet that it’s gonna kick ass.
BLADE with Mahershala Ali.
Even though Kevin Feige skipped the details, he did drop the news that the Fantastic Four and ‘Mutants’ are coming to the MCU, along with sequels such as Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Captain Marvel 2. These projects could come later in Phase 5, since Phase 4 is already packed with movies and serials from 2020 to 2021.
Disney owns Fox now and with their property coming back to them, we might get a new era of Fantastic Four and the X-Men combined with Marvel’s success formula and can we pleeeeaaaase get an Avengers vs X-Men movie soon?
Fantastic Four
The X-Men
We only covered the movies because we’re pretty sure y’all ain’t gonna subscribe to Disney+, or if it’s even going to be available in Malaysia. But if you don’t want to feel the FOMO, here’s the list of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows:
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
WandaVision
Loki
What If…?
Hawkeye
