Jah mo be there.
There’s a reggae bar in every major city. Fact. It will have pictures of Bob Marley on the walls and hang Jamaican flags from the ceiling. Fact. And it will be frequented by backpackers. Fact. But don’t let that put you off, because if you’re in the area and looking for a place to take a load off and chill after spunking away your money on some fakery then praise be to Jah, you’ve found your redemption.
There’s a pool table for those of you who need to do something while enjoying your pint. For the rest of you a big screen TV mounted on the wall screening the latest EPL match, F1 race what have you ought to provide enough distraction. Drinking competitions and pool tourneys are sure to get everyone going, and there are reggae costume nights and dreadlocks nights to keep with the theme. For a free beer as your first drink, whisper the magic word to the bartender! Mum’s not the word, but the password is on Reggae Bar’s website.
Clientele Reggae attracts young budget conscious tourists (natch), pool sharks and the occasional entourage of leggy models looking for something rough and ready. Yes, this surprised us too.
Drinks The shooters are the way to go but if ordering up cocktails with names that make ageing tourists feel like they are somewhere exotic then you should have no bother having Sex on the Beach, a Tequila Sunrise or a Pina Colada.
Happy hour Cheap pints from 5pm-9pm.
Eats Surprisingly this is a bar serves a fairly diverse selection of tucker from authentic Asian to Italian eats.
Music policy Proper reggae from greats like Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, and King Tubby and not so greats like Inner Circle, Big Mountain and UB40. And now that we’re moving down that path musically, DJ Toshi and Marley also spin old school rock, R&B and chart stuff you need to dust off.
Open 12nn-12mn daily.
Door Policy No cover.
Dress code If a (smart, urban oriented) backpacker can wear it so can you.
Parking Ample parking along the street but if all ainit irie and you find yourself there late and all the spots gone try the carpark behind the building. It’s RM5/entry.
