Masia One : Pulau (Merdeka Group/BBR Muzik)
This is no Lil’ Kim, but straight up hip hop for your mind. Masia’s lyrical rhymes and melodic beats are jazzy and soulful. From the start to the end, the album takes you on her journeys to Jamaica, Asia and across Canada where she talks about travel, friendships, family, love, hate and life.
She puts you on a ride from in ‘Montreal in the Fall’ and Latin-inspired ‘Escovido’ to the electro backbeat of ‘Return of the Bgirl’. At times, the album may seem to fall a little out of place, but this girl’s got mad skills that it made this double-disc end playing only too soon. We’ve waited long enough for her album to drop and we’re left far from wanting.
