Glaswegian indie folk poppers Camera Obscura return with their most bittersweet album to date. Filled with love songs done with child-like innocence, My Maudlin Career brings bands like The Concretes and Mazzy Star to mind. Singer Tracyanne Campbell’s soft voice goes well with the band’s sparkling acoustics which holds back to give more. Although her lyrics could’ve been nicked from a teenager’s diary, it’s not whiny and moves along whimsically like the rest of the music. Strike one up for the softies!
