Ningen Inc. is no stranger to producing super oft-kilter advertisements and other projects, even by Japanese standards of weirdness. So, unsurprisingly, when it came to servicing client Datumou Recipe – a website dedicated to female body hair grooming and removal – they decided the best way to promote them is via Pubic Hair Grooving, a project in which individual strands of pubic hair donated by volunteers are turned into unique soundwaves. DJ-producer Taku Takahashi (best known for DJ and production duties with m-flo and our forever bae Crystal Kay) was then unfortunately commissioned into using them to compose an original song called ‘In Motion’, which is in itself a pun on the Japanese word for pubic hair, inmou.

“To be honest, it wasn’t easy to tame these unruly notes into a piece of music,” Takahashi laments in its making-of video. “How deep can we go with pubic hair?”

Pretty deep, really. Watch the behind-the-scenes video below:

If you’re curious as to how each individual pubic hair sounds like as a soundwave, you can listen to three of them via Pubic Hair Grooving’s official microsite here.
