Jade Cantopop Gold 勁曲金歌
Now that current pop culture has completely mined the ‘80s and ‘90s, well, Western pop culture at least, it’s time to look into the Golden Age of Chinese pop music instead. The Bee, Publika is holding a tribute to ye olden days of Cantopop – think when The Four Heavenly Kings were more babyfaced than stern, very serious actors in crime flicks. If you’re familiar with these people just from their first names, Anita, Sam, Aaron, Leslie, Andy, then this night is definitely for you. Enhance the nostalgia by coming in era-appropriate outfit – padded jackets, centre-parting haircut, oversized carrot pants – and you might just be in the running to win a two-day, one-night stay at The KL Journal and dining vouchers at The Bee. Playfully named DJs Aunty Lau (安娣劉), Aaron Cock (阿輪廓), Jerky Cheung (出奇張), and Licky Lai (賴得賴) will spin – a bit of hint, they’re regular faces in the scene who are of a certain age.
