VIDEO: Tourist Pictures’ Aberdeen: A Montage of Kurt Cobain’s Artwork & Journals
If previously released documentaries or scanned images of Kurt Cobain’s journals weren’t able to illustrate the dark labyrinth that was Kurt’s mind to fans, perhaps a compressed three-minute video using the aforementioned elements might do the trick. Stefan Nadelman of Tourist Pictures has animated excerpts from the Nirvana frontman’s journal against Matt Sheehy’s ‘Aberdeen’ — an apt song to use as background music considering Aberdeen is Kurt’s hometown and the city that Nirvana was formed in — which coincidentally (probably intentional though) sounds like a mellowed version of a slow-jam Nirvana song (think ‘Lithium’ or ‘In Bloom’). The montage features drawings of sharks, crack babies, behind-the-scenes photographs of creating Nirvana’s album covers (Nevermind, Incesticide), and photos of Kurt, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic aka the most recognised faces in the plaid-decorated circle of grunge. Even though it’s been 22 years since Kurt passed away, his art and mental struggles remain to be topics of interest ’till today.
