The Blue Bird
Bullying is synonymous with high school — most of the time it’s regarded as “character building” instead of something that could potentially destroy someone’s life. ‘The Blue Bird’ is a film that explores the impact of a suicide caused by bullying, capturing the deceased’s classmates’ attempt to move on from. However, they do so by not acknowledging the bigger problem at hand. Troubled by this, the class’s new substitute teacher, Mr. Murauchi doesn’t let it slip so easily. He brings up the passing of the student every day which then results in the school snapping out of their oblivious way of life. Like previous classroom dramas — think Dangerous Minds and Freedom Writers — the consequences towards the teachers are severe.
