How fitting that the first single from Reddi Rocket’s debut record KiD is entitled ‘Lift Off’? The punny reference to his chosen stage name aside, the track is a statement; Jimmy’s (as he is known to friends) long-gestating talent over the past couple of years has finally fully decanted into an album, and this track announces his readiness to take off as a full-fledged musician. Paying respect to “the past” (as referenced in Akhyla’s official press statement), ‘Lift Off’ flies in a trajectory leading to the future of bass music in all its broad appeal glory – think the maximalist approach of HudMo, Flume’s tender pop leanings, and even a touch of the LA beat scene. What a way to begin 2016.
