Doodling on kicks has been a favourite pastime of restless kids for decades now. Recognising the creative spur in local young’uns, DC Shoes South East Asia invited all artists, creators, and designers from around the region to join the first DC Shoes SEA graphic design competition recently. Participants were required to custom design their own pair of the DC Trase Shoes. The Trase has a vulcanised low profile silhouette and clean upper design which makes it perfect for applying almost any form of ink, paint or dye.
Held at HUNDRED% at Lot 10, the DC Shoes Trase Yours Design Competition saw submissions from artists, creators, and designers from around Malaysia. Only 24 designs were chosen as the finalists. Some finalists took their designs to a whole new level, veering into the concept of life-struggles and growth of plants as symbolism, the colour of an endangered species of Malayan Tiger, and deconstructing a pair of sneakers while giving it a leather-facelift.
At the end of two hours of public-voting, the RM5000 cash prize was swept by a 17-year old high school student named Jessica with her purple and turquoise geometrical floral design. Not only did she win the DC Shoes Trase Yours Malaysian leg, her design will be reproduced in DC’s 2016 shoe collection and eventually sold throughout its retail stores internationally.
Now how about getting rid of that rule on keeping your white shoes clean in school?
DC Shoes Trase Yours Design Competition went down on 7 August 2015 at HUNDRED%.
