Despite being nominated for a Grammy (and losing out to our faves Snarky Puppy) a couple years ago, Hiatus Kaiyote still remains far from a household name even in their own Melbournian alleys. That could be about to change, with neo-soul making a steady comeback in popular circles and Hiatus Kaiyote’s upcoming Choose Your Weapon earmarked to be their best collection of tunes to date. They’ve pulled things back a little bit, compared to Tawk Tomahawk, with a more mature and vintage sound as can be heard on ‘Breathing Underwater’, especially when compared to tracks such as ‘The World It Softly Lulls’. Jai says its also a tribute to Stevie Wonder.
