Yesterday at 4:03pm, a 37-year-old pregnant woman accidentally gave birth in the toilet of a restaurant in Parit 7, Sekinchan.

According to New Straits Times, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department head Norazan Khamis said in a statement that the 7-month pregnant woman went to the toilet to relieve herself when she found herself delivering her premature baby instead.

“The fire and rescue services department took 10 minutes to break the toilet bowl and extricate the new-born,” he said.

Unfortunately, the baby boy did not survive while falling into the toilet bowl and was declared dead by the attending Health Ministry personnel at the scene.

According to Bernama, the mother was being treated at the Tanjung Karang Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

The low position of the baby’s head during pregnancy puts pressure on the urinary bladder, and many women approaching labour might feel a frequent need to urinate.

In the United States, about 380,000 babies are born prematurely each year. The preterm birth rate, which is before 37 weeks, is 9.8 percent in the United States. This means about 1 in 10 babies is born too soon.
