You’ve probably heard of the Australian urban music festival where last year it brought down hip hop and r’n’b luminaries such as D’Angelo, Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey, Common, and Aloe Blacc to the land down under. Be envious no more; this year, the kind people at Soulfest have brought the festival to our shores! To inaugurate the event, we all get to catch the queen herself, Mary J. Blige, along with De La Soul, Talib Kweli, and Jhene Aiko. On the local front, you can expect the likes of Joe Flizzow and his Kartel family, Najwa Mahiaddin, and hip hop platform-cum-gig series Raising The Bar (which likely means any act that didn’t get a billing would probably perform one song during the RTB set). As it is called Soulfest Asia, the bill will be extended to Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand as well; Shigga Shay, Raisa, and Thaitanium will be joining the already fantastic international and local lineup. Apart from the promotion of music, both international, regional, and local, Soulfest Asia has taken it upon themselves to aid local social causes via the Soul Sisters Package, which is a show of support for the Malaysia Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO). Furthermore, what’s a festival without any grub? During the event, pop-up eateries from the BIG group will be serving up some good ol’ soulfood (yes, they went there.)

There will be more announcements on the rest of the international and regional lineup, so stay tuned!
