To the uninitiated last year, Phon.o delivered an amazing live set at Mai Bar, Aloft KL — gaining new fans among the possibly noob crowd in the process. Now having brought him and multiple quality DJ-producers to Kuala Lumpur, Cee has finally used his German connect for a long in gestation Kuala Lumpur-Berlin collaboration. ‘HereNow’, off Phon.o’s Cracking Space Pt. 1 EP, features Darren Ashley‘s sideproject with Cee, Bass Sekolah, naturally it resulted in a grimy Berlin techno that’s borderline hymnic (thanks to a subtler approach to Darren’s vocals than what’d you expect from him). Available for streaming on Mode-f*cking-selektor’s Soundcloud, the local scene just levelled up, we think.
