Synonymous with the growth of extreme sports, it’s no wonder that Vans has flourished exponentially just as skateboarding, biking and other like activities have throughout the years. Vans is keeping things fresh this year with its updated Block Collection for SS14. The new collection was launched with great aplomb at the very place where its designs were inspired by, Los Globos in Los Angeles, with some of the who’s who and several other very fortunate guests rubbing shoulders alongside them. Conceived by Vans with some of the most influential figures in the LA street culture scene, the newly overhauled Beford, Tesella, and Prescott kicks are some of the finest in the market today.
The Bedford is the silhouette of Vans’ iconic mid-top, the Half Cab, which was and still is highly popular among skaters all across the globe, but created with a more refined touch in mind. Next to it, the Tesella sports a profile and palette similar to that of the Classic all-white Vans Authentic, but in a subtly shaded manner with deluxe details and linings taking it a level higher than your average board shoe. Topping off the collection is the modernistic Prescott kick, with Vans’ storied checkerboard print and hand-woven panels making the new design one for those who want to set themselves apart from the crowd.
Each year, the Vans OTW team scours the world looking for inspiration for their next lineup. This time around, their choice of the LA streetwear culture will definitely have its very own place in their Off The Wall hallof fame, with iconic kicks and an amazing launch to boot. Los Angeles beat staples Nosaj Thing and the Gaslamp Killer got the event going, prior to sets by Salva, Groundislava, Them Jeans, and Keltronix as the night went on. The party faded off to the tunes of TDE member ScHoolboy Q’s exclusive one-hour performance of hits from his major label debut Oxymoron.
