Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER and Vans’ Collaboration is Old School yet Era-defining

Streetwear acolytes should know, Jun Takahashi’s imprint, UNDERCOVER, isn’t one to fuck around with its aesthetics. Combine that with Van Vault’s skate practicality and design, you get two updated silhouettes; Vans Old Skool and Vans Era LX.
Out of the two, the former is unquestionably the highlight of this collaboration. Coming in two colourways – grey and a dark red Bordeaux – this pair doesn’t meddle with the silhouette’s original canvas construction, let classics look classic, but the added flower print (pink rose), suede toecap, and leather stripes give a certain panache to it. More class to the classic, if you will.
Then, the Vans Era LX – in black or red – proudly emblazons the lyrics to ‘Shelter Song’ by Temples, Jun’s favourite band, on its forefoot. “Take me in time, time to the music/ Take me away to the twilight zone,” if those two lines aren’t a foolproof method to get that MPDG to talk to you at a gig or party (which will consequently result in the two of you bonding over a shared fondness for Temples), we don’t know what is.
The UNDERCOVER x Vans Collection is due out on Saturday 4 February ’17 at Sole What The Gardens and One Utama. The Old Skool pair retails at RM599 while the Vans ERA LX is RM499. Available in both men’s and women’s sizes, contains no pigskin material.
