From billowing flares and prim button-up blouses to fringed kimonos and diamante frayed hot pants, Topshop’s Spring/Summer collection shows us that it’s all about dressing up and having fun. With four different ranges, this season’s collection is set to capture the hearts of everyone from hippy gypsies to the classic new age woman.
Inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz, snake prints, python leather and battered biker boots are mixed with detailed tapestry to produce a sexy silhouette that is a blend of Native American influence and gypsy rocker character.
Drawing inspiration from the glamorous 70s era, vintage and folk returns this season with floral prints, patchwork, crotchets and laces making a comeback alongside looser silhouettes such as tiered maxis, wide-legged palazzo trousers and pleated midi skirts. Denim also appears in softer, washed colours as seen on high waisted shorts, flared jeans and A-line skirts.
New Age Constellation
It’s a modern take on classic tailoring as urban sportswear is incorporated in new age fabrics to bring us an overall feel that is both futuristic and simplistic. Fluid flared trousers are teamed with matching T-shirts while basics are twisted and shifted with asymmetric hemlines. A key feature is relaxed drapings, which can be found on drape-font jackets and vests. Alongside boy-cut trousers and oversize white shirt dress, the icy grey palette is epitomized through refracted gemstones and kaleidoscopes inspired prints and designs.
An apt name for this range, this collection is all about a mix match of prints and stripes with pops of colour that screams young, trendy, quirky and geeky all in one. Clashing prints and colour stand out amidst shapes that are crisp, clean and simple in skinny rib tops, polo shirts, playsuits and cropped flared trousers. The palette is classic with hints of navy, camel, tangerine and sugar pink.
