Topman SS09: Chelsea Arts Club
From our limited knowledge of Chelsea, it’s teaming with over-privilidged toffs, needlessly large petrol-guzzling cars, football louts and flower shows. Having said that Damon Albarn is a fan and we do like him. British highstreet brand Topman takes a leaf from this London location in their Spring Summer 09 line in their Chelsea Arts Club themed collection.
Inspired by a sense of personal individualism, Chelsea Arts Club looks back to a sophisticated age where actors, artists and sartorialists mixed in exclusive members clubs. It’s also a look you’re soon to see on geeks-done-good, magazine stylists and art directors everywhere.Â
The trend does a quirky take on an essentially loose and relaxed look, with luxurious fabrics mixed with workwear pieces. Textured cotton shirts are teamed with club blazers, which we particularly like, and coats, whilst striped t-shirts are worn underneath short sleeve fine knit cardigans. Should that not say “look at me” enough already, then the polka dot shirting, trilby hats and espadrilles should do the trick. Just don’t forget your light summer scarf. Chelsea! Chelsea!
