The Best and the Worst Beauty Trends of 2017

2017 is coming to a close, and we’re all pretty much tired of it already. But before we move on to 2018, let’s take some time to look back at some of the best and worst beauty trends that took over social media by storm this year.

1. Wavy Eyebrows

Sweet Lord, before I start my rant, y’all already know this is one of the worst beauty trends of 2017. Look at this tragedy, or don’t look at it – bleach your eyes. This is one of those times when I sit and just think to myself… “Who? Why?” Who in the world stared into the mirror and just thought, “Oooh, let’s do a bit of something something to my eyebrows,” and SQUIGGLED on their goddamned face? I’m just going to stop here because really, I’ll give you an A for that perfectly refined squiggle line, but I’ll give you everything for y’all to not ever come up with stuff like this ever again.

2. I-Just-Ate-A-Popsicle Lips

Matte liquid lipsticks dominated the beauty industry last year, in fact, they still do. But this year, we need to acknowledge the rise of the ‘popsicle lips’ trend that’s really becoming a fashion statement in 2017. Similar to the famous Korean lip tints, the ‘popsicle lips’ look gives your lips a little more ‘something’ and a dash of colour, without being too overpowering and heavy like most lipsticks do. Lightweight, juicy, and natural, if that sounds good to you, then this beauty trend is definitely for you.

3. Black Highlighters

This reminds me of something… something that happened to me every single day when I was in middle school.

4. Glitter Lips

Hey boo, I definitely see you. Glitter, glitter everywhere, and I wholeheartedly agree with it. It’s probably not suitable for everyday wear, but with all that bling, you’ll definitely get that boost of confidence you need when you head out into the streets. I mean look at it, it’s a work of art.

It’s rare when something or someone can render me speechless, but this… this is definitely an exception. Therefore, cue memes.

6. Charcoal Peel-Off Masks

Now, I’m not sure if this is one of the best beauty trends in 2017, but it’s also not one of the worst. So, I think this one is a 50/50 for everybody. You know the phrase ‘You have to go through pain to experience joy’? That’s the case when you use these peel-off pore cleansers. Some claim it to be painless, others claim it feels like you’re burning your skin off. You’ll never really know until you try it yourself.

7. Cher-Inspired Locks

Yaasssss, we are living for this bomb af hairdo. Lanky, hip-grazing waves that are pressed to poker-straight perfection, this Cher-inspired hair is making a comeback and we love it. We don’t care if they’re extensions, any trend inspired by the legendary Cher is a gem to be kept.
