With the sakuras in full bloom right now over at the Land of the Rising Sun, renowned Creative Director NIGO rolls out a capsule collection that showcases another Japanese tradition in pop culture through clothing.

Together with a major Kabuki, film, and theatre company Shochiku Co Ltd, whose known for their Kabuki performances at the famed Kabukiza Theater in Tokyo, and actor Ichikawa Ennosuke IV, comes the Shochiku Kabuki x UNIQLO Project collection, encompassing 63 items in nine UT categories.

The designs for the t-shirts are recreated with the symbolism and patterns of Kabuki kimonos, painstakingly replicated from the hand-drawn designs of Shochiku’s Kabuki costumes. Other design inspirations are Ennosuke IV’s stage make up with their vibrant contrasts, the performance of Omatsuri (The Festival) which features Mitsuzaru (The Three Monkeys) – the Ichikawa family crest. which with a Kimono design touch, places the crest proudly around the neck and shoulder line for a hint of Old Tokyo chic.

The UNIQLO x Shochiku Kabuki capsule collection will be available at all UNIQLO stores nationwide from 16 April onwards.
