Nike has described Neymar da Silva Santos Jr’s football skills with FC Barcelona as “a style so fluid, it reminded us of water flowing between rocks.” So, that’s when the sporting brand starts shifting their thoughts from incorporating a nod to diamonds, to creating a liquid diamond aesthetic for Neymar Jr’s next Hypervenom pack.
The use of the mineral to begin with has everything to do with Neymar Jr’s close relationship with his sister, Rafaella, both of whom have a diamond tattoo on each of their arms, in which above Neymar Jr’s ran the word ‘sorella’ (sister), and Rafaella’s ‘fratello’ (brother). Diamond is a symbol of simplicity and rare beauty, and the way it stands out from the rest reminds Neymar Jr of his relationship with his sister.
First launched in Rio de Janiero in 2013, and before the follow up gold edition next summer, the Liquid Diamond edition features a NikeSkin upper of textured canvas that enhances the dimension of the colour. After experimenting with a variety of different shades, the colourful accents celebrate Neymar Jr’s play and personality, as well as his eighth year as a Nike athlete.
The Nike x Neymar Jr Hypervenom Liquid Diamond pack will be available from 1 February onwards.
