When it’s undeniably British, it’s indisputably Fred Perry. The Fred Perry ‘Authentic’ collection celebrates another season of classics without complication, and offers up the spirit of originality that is as sharp and honest as ever.
The introduction of boxier fits to complete the tomboy inspired style can be seen in the women’s classic Fred Perry wardrobe. Classic tartan shirts are slightly cropped in red or blue, while the boxy Flat Knit Collar Strip tee comes with a ’60s influence of a zip to the reverse.
Erskine Tartan and Polka Dots prints are worked into the classic styles; one of the standout pieces is the Polka Dot Knitted Fred Perry shirt. An unlined Mac takes design elements from the archival Harrington jacket, creating both a stylish and subversive piece. Last but definitely not the least, the subcultural classic Twin Tipped Fred Perry dress – a bold staple of the Fred Perry wardrobe – is featured in black with white tipping and a seasonal update in flame red.
For the menswear collection, the inspiration comes from Fred Perry’s archive of sportswear and subcultural classics for a more distinctive collection.
A bomber stripe setting is introduced to collars across the Fred Perry shirts, woven shirting, and jackets, while a blue tonal DPM camo sits across pique shirts and woven shirts, as well as upon panelled pockets and cut-and-sewn panelling. Other notable detailing includes the featurette of a brass button finish, a nod to Fred’s working class roots in Stockport.
Jacquard polka dots are woven into shirting, and Gingham deconstructed and blended with Tartan to create an entirely modern check, whereas Regimental Tartans such as Ogilvy, Campbell, and Macleod are seen on the sharp shirting silhouettes.
Modernist outerwear styles are inspired by the subcultural classics, from the technical bomber made from Swiss Schoeller fabric to the Caban, and the Twin Tipped bomber jacker with contrasting stitch detail pockets, derived from the original ‘50s Tennis Bomber.
