Here’s a July 2009 heads up. Alexander McQueen and Puma have teamed up again, this time for the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2009 sport-fashion apparel collection. Following the success of the footwear line that forms part of the hyper-exclusive Puma Black Label featuring collaborations with renowned designers, the new Alexander McQueen Puma line will includes a full collection of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories.

With power as the driving force between the line, each season’s collection will also have a specific seasonal theme related to sport. The Autumn/Winter 2009 seasonal theme is boxing. The visual icon of the season, the Griffin, is used throughout the collection as a graphic application and innovative detailing such as ergonomic cuts, combat bandages, silhouettes and overlays are the most visual features of the debut collection. The new apparel collection will be photographed by world renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight.

Higjlights from the line include the men’s High Waist Combat Pants which feature contrast paneling at the front and back and the women’s Double High Waist Paints which feature a tiered vertiginous waistline. The women’s Cutman High sneakers (not shown here) takes its inspiration from the boxing ring. The cotton strapping on the upper are an allusion to the bandaging applied to the boxer’s hands prior to slipping them into gloves. The strapping on the boots criss-cross the upper to create part of its facings and the strap fastening. Multiple laces give the shoe a close fit, while the combination of suede and canvas makes the shoe reminiscent of professional boxing boots.

Held simultaneously with the apparel launch event during Milan Men’s Fashion week was the premiere of Ghost, a short brand movie directed by acclaimed director Saam Farahmand and Alexander McQueen. It features a breathtaking dual between two athletic models with slow-to-fast motion effects and reverberation of the sequences.

Puma Black Label features collaborations with renowned designers such as Alexander McQueen, Yasuhiro Mihara and Sergio Rossi. Puma’s Autumn/Winter 2009 Alexander McQueen sport-fashion apparel collaboration hits select stores in July 2009. For more punch up www.puma.com.
