Onitsuka Tiger Stripes Turn 50 Years Old
Onitsuka began its operations way back in 1949 after its founder Kihachiro Onitsuka, who at the time was a former military officer, decided to help motivate youths during the postwar era through athletics. The Japanese shoe company has come along way since its days of designing sneakers that resemble straw sandals to creating the iconic stripes on its Onitsuka Tiger shoes. This year marks the 50th year since the stripes — now incorporated in Onitsuka Tiger’s logo — made their first appearance during the pre-Olympic trials in 1966, and now with this new milestone, Onitsuka Tiger curated three ranges for the anniversary entitled ‘M66’; Mexico Delegation, Mexico 66 Saeculi, and lastly the iconic Mexico 66. But before we get to the sneakers, the brand also directed a short video-lookbook to demonstrate the versatility of the shoes.

Now for photos:
The Mexico 66 retails at RM399 and the Mexico Delegation is priced at RM459. Meanwhile, the ‘Saeculi’ will be priced between RM459 and RM499, depending on the model. The shoes will be available at Onitsuka outlets (KLCC, Mid Valley, Sunway Pyramid, and Gurney Plaza) from February onwards. More from Onitsuka here.
