Spanish streetwear boutique 24 Kilates celebrates its tenth anniversary by working with ASICS on a new edition of the Gel-Respector silhouette. It’s appropriately named ‘Virgen Extra’ — yes, it was indeed inspired by Spain’s most notable cooking product that every functional kitchen is stocked with, extra virgin olive oil, and yes, it’s spelled ‘virgen’. That’s Spanish for, well, virgin. The colour treatment follows the product as well; green, yellow, and purple. The latter is not usually (and should hardly ever be) found in a bottle, however it represents the Arbequina olives that are included in the olive oil’s ingredients. With so much being taken from the essential oil, maybe the shoes will even smell like it? That would be something. Co-branding is subtle, found in the insoles of the leather sneakers, meanwhile the words ‘Barcelona’ and ’24 Kilates’ are written the laces.
