Topshop Dress Up

Perhaps it’s age, cause I swear it sounds like my dad just set up camp in my head when I say this, but lately I have begun to question why people pay good money to look like they have lost their job and have been living out on the streets with Anton Jackson (In Living Colour). That slouchy, rolled off the pavement, homeless look, with the dirt-washed pants, and tee with holes built-in … was a fan but, not a fan anymore. That phase has passed. Just like grunge did in the 90s  (although I miss that). At any rate Topshop agrees with me. They’re on the verge of launching their Dress Up line here in Malaysia.

Hitting selected stores with a debut collection of 12 statement dresses, Topshop’s imitable flavour permeates the limited line, which is due to be released at the end of May. Available in Topshop Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Topshop Suria KLCC and Topshop Mid Valley Megamall, with prices ranging from RM276 to RM659, the dresses come in a kaleidoscope of colours, shapes and styles and that Topshop edginess.

Standout items include a black leather dress with gold studding, ruffled sleeves and black elastic strapping on the back, which channels an early 80s punk influence. Also top of the pops is a black jersey dress with a sweetheart neckline and sheer sleeves adorned in silver lightning beading, and simple sheath dress with rainbow coloured sequins and black leather bow tie belt.

For something a little softer, say more Katy Perry/Coutney Love (pick your decade Gen X and Y-ers) than Jessie J is the fun fifties prom style frock in white with black polka dots and pale pink bodice dress with tulle tutu. Candy pink and lemon dresses froth like French fancy wrapping in cute cocktail dresses but my personal favourite has to be the super sexy, one shoulder rouched dress, perfect for hidding all manner of sins except for short stubby legs – yes all these Dress Up dresses are super short this outing. A popular shape as of late, it turns up in this collection in two colours – classic black, ivory and this season’s hottest hue, coral!

Go get Dressed Up; coming to you at the end of May at Topshop Pavilion, Mid Valley Megamall and KLCC. Click on the pictures in the gallery for a closer look at each dress.
