Michelle Yeoh Caught Covid & Had to Skip Red-Carpet Premiere of Her First Hollywood Headliner Movie

Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has proven time and time again that she’s one actress not to mess with, but unfortunately, nothing stops Miss Rona.

Yesterday, Michelle shared on Instagram that she couldn’t attend the premiere of the film, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once‘ as she was down with Covid-19. This is the first Hollywood movie that she is headlining after working in the West for more than 20 years.

Michelle’s IG post wrote, “Life on Life’s terms… bittersweet… Premiere in LA tonight & unfortunately, I verse jumped into the Covid universe!”, accompanied by a photo of the international star wearing a face mask and lying in bed.

Many of her followers including actors Daniel Wu, Jimmy O Yang and Benedict Wong commented on the post and wished the actress a speedy recovery.

ICYMI, Michelle plays the starring role of Evelyn, a wife, mother and launderette owner facing an impossible tax audit. She is also dozens of other “Evelyns” – from an action star to a Chinese opera singer to a boulder atop a desert cliff that can think and move. Basically, her character travels from one reality to the other in a bold and thrilling sci-fi caper.

Directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan wanted to imbue ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once‘ with the “energy of the Hong Kong films we love”. The duo wrote the film with the Malaysian actress in mind and believe their relationship with her, and the cast addition of Jamie Lee Curtis convinced Michelle to accept the role, according to SCMP.

The movie is set to open in the United States on 7 April. Meanwhile, it opens in Malaysia today (24 March).
