[UPDATE] Elderly Patient Who Jumped From Sabah Hospital Tested Negative For Covid-19

A 63-year old local woman who died from a fall from Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital (HQE 1) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah was not infected with Covid-19 as previously reported. She was scheduled to be released a day after her death.

She is believed to have jumped from a window on the eighth floor of the hospital building before she was noticed by hospital staff who later informed the police, Harian Metro reported.

Sabah health director Dr Christina Rundi said the woman who was suspected to have Covid-19 actually tested negative three times. “As such, the hospital had planned to discharge her from the ward on Oct 22,” she said in a statement last night.

Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Habibi Majinji said his officers were informed of the incident at 9.30 pm. He said early investigations show the victim was admitted to the hospital on 13 October.

“The police are conducting an investigation to identify the cause for the victim to jump, including finding witnesses at the scene,” he said yesterday.

Dr Rundi said the hospital’s mental health psychological support team has reached out to the victim’s family to provide them with psychological support. She also added that the hospital will carry out a thorough study of the incident and will make any suitable improvements.
