DKNY Jeans S/S 09

You can never be to rich, too slim or have enough jeans apparently. If DKNY Jeans’ Spring/Summer 09 line is anything to go buy we’ll be investing in more denim this year as the brand takes the classic American style perfected by the label and gives it a bit of an edgy urban twist.

Embracing the new year and new seasons with energy and optimism, DKNY Jeans’ latest collection that blurs the line between vintage and modern.

The fashion set may have been divided on the slouchy turned up boyfriend jeans but it looks like they’re here to stay. Cropped trapeze jackets swing atop high-rise flares, lace trimmed frocks float over skinny jeans, shimmery blouses marry white washed shorts. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before or worn but here it’s given that trademark American take – crisp, clean and understated.

Details include ruffles, ties and oversized bows, 40s pockets and suspenders. And in a bit of a ying-yang combination, hard as nails leather biker jackets and military cargoes get paired up with flowy poet’s blouses and pleated camis.

In terms of colour pallette, pastels like citrine, spearmint, peony and tanzanite make an appearance alongside richer hues like indigo and navy, and earthy tomes of lichen and desert.

Denims shift from dark rinses and glossy coated finishes to ultra faded and sun bleached. While we’re not a fan of faded out jeans – they remind us way too much of peroxide blondes with maggi mee hair and Whitesnake ballads - nevertheless it looks to be the season’s hot trend. We’re happier about the re-emergence of shrunken blazers though – what better way to make your legs look mile long. And this season there’s plenty of leg, with skirts and shirt dresses stopping short mid-thigh and romper suits managing to stay firmly within wardrobes.

Mindful that quite a lot of us have to work to earn our DKNY dollars, besides the streetsmart there’s plenty of utilitarian looks which wouldn’t look out of place in an office environment. The menswear line in particular unites army and workwear details with a downtown edge. Cargo pockets, back buckles, webbed belts and engineer checks turn up all over the place and striped workshirts, slouchy cuffed jeans, slim logo tees, parachute cotton pants, sleek bomber jackets and military shorts all get a workout.

DKNY Jeans stores are located at Gardens Mid Valley and Pavillion KL.
