Indonesian streetwear brands get Malaysian representation and prove a fierce creature.
An indie streetwear label for men first established in Bandung in 1999, Badger features retro-inspired design motifs with a strong graphic attitude. Its line of tees, jackets, sweatshirts and accessories have already found fans in Indo bands Nidji and Peter Pan and it was that same musical connection which attracted Malaysian’s Zai, Farid, Faezal and Izzat to form Badger Malaysia and open the country’s first store.
As fans of Badger’s hip streetwear and rock ‘n’ roll attitude Badger Malaysia stock Badger for men, and sub-brands Anti-Beauty for women and Voltra, which embodies the darker side of Badger. The latter, launched in 2008 has a harder design edge with skate, graffiti and tattoo leanings. Eight graphic artists are behind all the unique and expressive artwork on those pieces. And believe it or not, all pieces are handmade!
Why? It’s not often a streetwear store can profress to offer “not only merchandise but friendship as well to our customers,” but music and friendship is the root of Badger Malaysia. Mixing a little indie spirit, street style, affordability, quality and rarity, new designs are imported from Indonesia every month, and as Badger only produces 200-350 pieces of each article of clothing, which is then shipped to Bandung, Bali, Jogjakarta, Surabaya and Malaysia, everything you see in the store is limited. So it pays to revisit frequently.
Who? Regional streetwear aficionados and culture vultures, music and streetwear lovers. Indie bands and singers like Peter Pan, Letto, Nidji, Yuna, They Will Kill Us All and Estranged already swear by this label!

Trends Although ever evolving, the key look of the labels available here is music culture. T-shirts, shirts, denimwear, 3-quarter pants, hoodies and pullovers spell the essence of music and the latest streetwear look.
Vibe Crisp white walls and furnishings mean it’s the clothing that does all the work. The sounds of local and Indonesian indie bands play as you browse the racks and the service is excellent too with friendly and accommodating staff to lend you a hand.
Future plans To expand its reach to major cities around Malaysia, particularly Johor Bahru, Kuching and Penang. In order to make this work, the Badger boys are currently working hard to build the brand’s name here in Malaysia. One of ’em will be heading to France to promote the indie streetwear brand soon too.
Parking If you’re lucky enough to nab a coveted spot, then park along the streets of Damansara Uptown just outside the boutique. For everyone else, there are parking spaces in Uptown 1’s basement carpark at RM1/hour. There’s also an open air car park just around the corner.
