A Quick Breakdown Of The 10-Point Coalition Deal Between Pakatan Harapan & Barisan Nasional

According to reports from yesterday, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) may have reached an understanding over a government system which might restore harmony and stability to the nation.

Both coalitions are said to be welcoming other parties, primarily from Sabah and Sarawak, to join them in what could potentially be a salutary recipe towards a new unity government.

According to sources, the new “Kerajaan Perpaduan Malaysia” will support this idea by promoting a “well-represented” governing coalition that will persist for five subsequent years.

The 10-point proposal from PH to BN, as reported by The New Straits Times includes the following:

  • In order to protect the sensibilities and sanctity of Islam, Malays and Bumiputeras, and the monarchy, all necessary measures must be taken to ensure that policies, programmes, and the government direction affirm the constitutional provisions on matters pertaining to the stance of Islam, Malays/Bumiputera, and the Malay rulers.
  • The parliament won’t be dissolved before serving out its full five-year mandate.
  • The deputy prime minister’s (DPM) role will be headed by BN leaders, while the prime minister (PM) will be a PH member of parliament (MP).
  • The BN leader will be in charge of the state governments of Perak and Pahang.
  • The partners’ percentages in the Dewan Rakyat will be used to determine how many cabinet posts will go to each of them.
  • The BN’s supreme council must first provide its consent before any MPs can be appointed to the Cabinet.
  • Notification and discussion between the PM and DPM are required prior to the appointment of Dewan Negara members, major positions in government-affiliated businesses, and other government offices.
  • The PM and DPM will decide who will fill each senior cabinet position, including those in finance, home affairs, rural and regional development, education, and defence. The allocation will be fair and in line with each person’s qualifications.
  • Representatives from each party will be included in the government, and senior positions will be assigned after negotiations are finished.

According to the sources, the newly formed coalition was hopeful that the Borneo bloc would join forces with Putrajaya to aid in the nation’s reconstruction.
