Boy was it a great weekend of relaxation, good food and shopping.

When we checked in the hotel, it was kind of weird to realise that we’re still in Cheras. 10 minutes ago on the way here, the road was hazy, cars were rushing here and there, and you could see the familiar Cheras – as least in its madness.

But it’s amazing how Sunway Velocity Hotel managed to keep out all that noise, making you forget that you’re staying in one of the busiest districts in KL.

Located in the suburban neighbourhood of Cheras, the 16 floor hotel is one of the many hotels that Sunway owns, but the difference that set this one apart from the rest is the scale of it. It’s not for those who are looking for a luxurious, champagne-popping stay, it’s for those who are looking for convenience.

The hotel is connected to Sunway Velocity Mall, which will make your life super easy. There are tonnes of restaurants, cafes, a cinema and hang out spots, it’s all there. All you need to do is take a 5-minute walk from the connected floor on level 5.

We think it’s bigger than Sunway Pyramid and like its cousin, it’s packed with most of your favourite retailers.

After walking around, we checked in our room on the 13th floor and was in awe with the view. There were roads leading to KL, trees shading a well developed neighbourhood, and about 800 metres away from it was a low-cost housing area. And overshadowing the denizens, from our room’s windows we could see the timeworn, yet attractive Twin Towers with grey skies passing by.

The room was big enough to host the three of us and came well-equipped, including this new tool: a smartphone that provides you with maps, directories and unlimited WiFi on the go.

And like every modern hotel, you need to have an infinity pool. Located on the highest floor, you can view the skyline of KL while having a dip.

If you’re feeling pumped up, just get busy at the 24-hour gym.

You can tell a lot about a hotel from its breakfast buffet and we’re happy with the variety of food on this hotel’s menu, which serves continental and asian cuisine to fuel you in the morning. In addition to the menu expanding in the future, we have to give bonus points for the cute decor.

Aside from the nice buffet and facilities, we didn’t even have to think about driving to the city centre. The 10 minutes walk to the Maluri MRT station just gives us another reason to choose staying at Sunway Velocity Hotel, whenever we need convenience or just a weekend city getaway.
