These Photos Show Just How Devastating the Penang Flood Was

We were devastated when we found out Penang island was hit by a major flood over the weekend. Pictures of the flood drowning the island haven’t stop appearing on our feeds. According to media reports, the heavy rainfall since Saturday was triggered due to the area’s low pressure.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) Director-General Alui Bahari said, “This area became a focal point for winds and high level of moisture, which resulted in continuous heavy rain and strong winds. This low pressure area had first taken shape in the South China Sea at the end of last month and it moved across southern Thailand before reaching Peninsular Malaysia on 4 November.”

At least seven deaths have been reported in relation to the flood. In early reports, four bodies of senior citizens were discovered at their homes. While the body of a Bangladeshi man was found in a house destroyed by a fallen tree. Timur Laut District Police Chief ACP Anuar Omar also recently confirmed that two men were found dead as the result of drowning on different occasions.

A total of 1,968  people have been evacuated since last Saturday, according to the MalayMail online. Our hearts and thoughts go out to you or anyone caught in the situation at Penang.
