It’s been five years since we last saw Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky in the heartfelt recreation of president JFK’s relationship with First Lady Jackie Kennedy. While the ‘National Anthem‘ song lingers on as one of Lana’s best from the Born to Die album, the world then began shipping the singer and the rapper after their romantic chemistry in the song’s music video. It’s clear that Lana has many good celebrity friends she’s worked with, but there’s something special about A$AP Rocky’s return in two of Lana’s summer tracks for her upcoming record Lust for Life. Other than being proof of the two’s camaraderie, ‘Summer Bummer’ and ‘Groupie Love’ make a refreshing addition to the singer’s list of bops for the season, following her tradition of Americana summer vibes in past songs like ‘Summertime Sadness‘. To get fans excited for the record that’s set to release on Friday 21 July, Lana also posted up an image of her tracklist that revealed 16 songs, including diverse collaborations with artistes like Stevie Nicks and Sean Ono Lennon.

Melodically haunting, ‘Summer Bummer’ – produced by Boi 1da – sings out lyrics of an undercover lover over rap beats that emerge right after the slow and dark piano intro. A$AP Rocky raps halfway through the song as well as Playboy Carti, as the two continue to talk about hip hop in the summer over an oddly smooth mesh of typical Lana vocal overlay and hip hop treble.

‘Groupie Love’ opens like many of Lana’s songs that instantly give you a clear narrative to follow. The lyrics are easy sing-alongs, and the chorus repeatedly sings the title of the song. It’s a good ol’ pop offering by Lana with a similar progression to ‘Lust for Life (feat. The Weeknd)’ that also features A$AP Rocky. Lana was quoted saying, “My tracklisting changed a lot in the last three months and I feel like there’s this middle section… that has a lot of fire in it. It’s not that fast, but the beats are pretty hard.”

Look out for 21 July for the release of Lust for Life or simply follow Lana Del Rey here for regular updates.
