In collaboration with The Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA) and Seni Negaraku in mutual promotions of the art, RIUH is back at it again but this time with something a bit more festive that might top their well-received Christmas-themed event last year.

To prep you up for Chinese New Year, Gong Xi RIUH will be held at APW Bangsar and as usual, you can find pop-up stores, creative workshops, food stalls and live performances.

Besides all the cute and quirky stuff you can find at RIUH’s market, a CNY celebration is definitely instilled this time around as the two days will be filled with festivities. Three lions will be dancing this coming weekend–the Kwong Ngai Lion Dance Co. They bagged the championship at the recent Hong Kong Luminous Dragon & Lion Dance Championship and to spice it up even more, they’ll be bringing a dragon, a changing mask dude, and the God of Prosperity.

There will be plenty of ‘gram-worthy moments to capture with the massive communal yee sang, percussions showcase and the traditional fan & handkerchief dance. Not to mention, performances by tonnes of musical groups like Nakasutra–a multiracial group of talented musicians who will be debuting at RIUH, and Fugee School who will be showcasing their talent through drums. Also, long-standing local percussions group Aseana Percussion Unit will be back again to hype up Gong Xi Riuh.

For the more stoic, try embracing Chinese culture by attending some workshops that will be provided that day. If you’re keen on learning creative skills, join the Lunar Paper Art & Watercolour Brush Lettering Workshops on 10 Feb – perfect to keep for yourself or as a gift on CNY/Valentine’s. Other activities that might tickle your fancy such as Patchwork by Salang Design will be available too–yes, you can make your own patchwork on tee shirts and tote bags.

It’ll be a perfect chance for you to get in the spirit while you shop for the festive season. There will be tonnes of artisanal products to discover including CNY gift-boxes and Valentine’s Day specials for you lovebirds.

Notably, you can’t have a festive without food! On top of everything else – Chili Pang Pang’s chicken wings, Aiden Picnic’s bao buns with yummy fillings topped with sambal, Mom’s BBQ amazing barbecued meat, Yoohoo’s hotdogs, kuih-muih from Mak Jah, Nachos la’s Kam Heong Chicken Nachos – seriously, we can go on and on… so it’s better to have a bite of all of this yourself this weekend to satisfy your craving or curiousity.
