Get connected
Situated at the crossroads of Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang, the GTower is truly one of a kind. It’s Malaysia’s 1st internationally green-rated building and its environmentally conscious theme is prevalent throughout. Visiting the uber swanky Bridge Bar is an experience in itself; with its location at the sky bridge linking the twin GTower buildings on the 28th floor, the breathtaking sights you get of the KL cityscape can only be described as “wow”. Inside, the architecture is similarly on a grand scale with a vast expanse of mirrored ceilings, illuminated stands, floor-to-ceiling windows, state-of-the-art glass flooring and eco-friendly fixtures. Now, that’s an experience money can’t buy. [more »]

Il Lido Lounge Bar

Il Lido Lounge Bar
2nd Floor, The Mayang,
19 Jalan Mayang, off Jalan Yap Kwan Seng,
50450 Kuala Lumpur

Alfresco bar/lounge with a different point of view
Located opposite the Australian High Commission, a stone’s throw away from KLCC Suria, and so called after the Venetian island of the same name, the chic Il Lido Lounge Bar opened mid-June a mere fortnight after its award-winning modern Italian restaurant downstairs. Unlike the restaurant which is a luxurious paean to chrome, gold, black and grey, the rooftop bar resembles a landscaped modern Swedish bath house, all wood, artificial grass and trendy minimalism replete with Philippe Starck and Karim Rashid furnishings.

Save water, drink beer
Located in Sunway Giza, finally good beers at an amazing price in the vicinity of Kota Damansara. Designed to resemble a factory, industrial looking yellow and black diagonal warning stripes appear on walls, the roof is made of zinc and chairs are made of cement or crates. Handily, if you lift the seat up you put stash your handbags in there, while tall tables near the bar have hooks for you to hang your handbags on. Set on 2 levels, sports fans will appreciate the multiple HD TVs and a big screen, while upstairs is The Attic which can be accessed via some tricky looking “floating stairs”.

Enter the dragon
As neighbourhood pubs go, we are pretty spoilt for choice if you stay in city suburban areas. In the last few years we’ve seen the rise in popularity in ‘authentic-as-it-gets’ pubs – most of them becoming quite the franchise business too. The problem about that lies in the fact that after a while you get sort of a “fast food chain” situation where soon enough, every pub is exactly the same wherever you go. Where’s the charm, baby?

Carmen’s Vinothek

by Yeni Chan on Friday, 9th July 2010

Carmen’s Vinothek
48 Changkat Bukit Bintang
50200 Kuala Lumpur
T: 03 2143 2268

The wine library
Located next door and linked to The Whiskey Bar, Carmen’s Vinothek is another project by the Werner group. Named after Werner’s wine sommelier, Carmen, ‘Vinothek’ is a German word meaning wine library. The venue’s concept allows patrons to try different types of wines in small quantities rather than by the bottle. Carmen’s Vinothek offers over 600 labels of both Old and New World wines including those from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa and even Lebanon, so there’s plenty to try before commiting to one. Kind of like dating for wine lovers….

Zen in the club
The same Tao Club & Bar as the one at TTDI Plaza, Tao Mutiara Damansara is brought to you by the Modesto’s group. The second Asian contemporary concept outlet was recently opened at e@Curve. Its trademark oriental arch entrance and use of red decor inside reinforce it exotic Asian feel. Choose to kick back in the  common banquette area or the ‘hanging garden’ aka outdoor terrace and watch the latest sport or music videos on jumbo-sized screens. Alternately catch some Zen at the high table in the lower lounge area or the sofas located in the upper lounge. [more »]

Make like a tree and root
There are a lot of new bars popping up outside of KL so what makes Ecoba any different? If you’re thinking this is an environmentally-themed bar where you’ll only be drinking wheat-based barley brews, then you’re wrong. The ECO in Ecoba stands for eat, chill and ogle (at the birds both at the bar and perched on trees).
